One of my new obsessions is going to IMDB.com and reading the “Fun Stuff” sections for notoriously unfunny movies. The best are the “Goofs.”
Here are a few of my favorite goofs:
World Trade Center (2006)
Factual errors: At the beginning of the movie, one of the characters asks the Yankee fan if he saw Jeter’s home run during Saturday’s game. Derek Jeter didn’t play the Saturday before Sept. 11 because he was injured. Enrique Wilson filled in at shortstop for the injured Derek Jeter and went 2 for 4 including a triple, with a run and a run batted in.
Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire (2009)
Errors made by characters: Early in the movie when Precious is shown in her original high school, the teacher has written the word “REQUIRMENTS” in large print on the blackboard. The word is misspelled.
The Reader (2008)
Anachronisms: In a 1976 scene, the calculator seen on Michael’s desk is presumably an OEM-Version of the Casio LC-403B. This calculator came on the market around 1985.
Leaving Las Vegas (1995)
Continuity: The toilet paper is folded when Sera first sits down to urinate. The next shot of her sitting on the toilet shows that the toilet paper isn’t folded any more.
Dead Man Walking (1995)
Crew or equipment visible: When Sister Helen and Mr. Delacroix are first speaking in his living room, a crew member wanders into the background outside the window and then quickly runs out.
United 93 (2006)
Continuity: When United 93 is in the air, the terrorist in the back of the plane has his brown jacket alternately zipped/unzipped between shots.
Requiem for a Dream (2000)
Factual errors: When surgeons amputate a limb, they first remove the muscles/tendons and the nerves, and then they cut through the bone. They do not simply saw through the flesh as depicted here.
Amistad (1997)
Continuity: As the Africans row to the island for fresh water, their rowboat is marked “LA AMISTAD” in all capital letters. However, as they’re returning, after the Navy ship appears, the rowboat reads “La Amistad” in mixed case letters.
